Nekaj vtisov EVS prostovoljke Sabrine iz Berlina po prvem mesecu bivanja in opravljanja svoje službe v Kopru.
I settled down!
It's almost a month now that I am here in Koper and yes, for those who may have doubts: I still really enjoy being here and didn't get bored yet! : )
It's been raining a lot. And slowly but steadily it's getting really cold outside. Winter is coming. And in a lot of snowy parts of Slovenia it has already arrived. Oh yes, I often complain about this weather. But then I remind myself of the poor weather conditions in Berlin of these days (believe me, they are bad!) and I immediately feel better. : )
Life in an apartment of eight people turned out to be a very nice thing. There is always somebody around to have a chat, a drink, a cigarette with and of course, always somebody who is occupying the bathroom… : ) But it's great nevertheless! And also my roommate is! I am sharing the room with Iris, a very friendly and funny girl who is studying here in Koper.
So, what have I been doing till now?
Of course, I went out to bars to discover the nightlife around here a little bit: I had some Refošk (regional red wine), was offered to drink »Bambus« (which is half red wine, half Coca Cola) and when it was just too cold outside I got to enjoy some »Kuhano Vino« (hot vine with spices). As you see, it's all about vine here. : )
Also, in the middle of November for about a week there was »Martinovanje« (St. Martin’s Day), a traditional vine festival at VinaKoper to celebrate this year's vine harvest.
Then, of course, my EVS activities at Pina started!
Mitko is teaching me all about movie making and editing and till now there were two occasions at Pina's e-Kavarna where I tried out my filming/recording skills for the first time. Indeed, they still need to be improved, but hey, no master has fallen from the sky yet!
Every Wednesday I spend the whole day at the local grammar school »Gimnazija Koper« to assist English classes, plus, I am offering a conversation class in English for any student interested. Till now these days have been interesting and fun, but indeed also quite exhausting. : )
Besides this, from time to time I will also assist a German class at the elementary school »OŠ A. Ukmar«.
And, to complete the big language mixture I am dealing with: A week ago also my Slovene Language course at »Ljudska Univerza Koper« started! : ) We are a small group of absolute beginners trying hard to discover the secrets of Slovene grammar, and that surely isn't easy...
So, this was my November in Slovenia. And cold December is already knocking at the door. We will see if I let it enter...
